I am a little sad...

...for years now, I have been requesting gorgeous Toast UK catalogues and they are no longer shipping them overseas. Probably because of people like me: people who pore over every page but, alas, never purchase anything. I would if I didn't see the price in pounds, knowing it's double in Canadian funds. Ouch! Anyhoo, I am happy to say that I have saved every copy and there is the online catalogue, but it is awfully nice to have that paper catalogue to hold, cherish and keep forever, isn't it? ;-)

So, first of all...THANK YOU! Thank you to those of you who are new to my blog. Sure nice having you here! I am humbled...

Now that I have jumped on my blog (um, it's been a little while, eh?) I think I need to have some more Polyvore fun. So addictive. Have you tried it yet?

Autumn is in full swing here in Southern Ontario (Canada). It's getting chilly and I have had to give in to turning on the gas fireplace from time to time. I always classify this as silly season because you really need to layer it up. I also find that because I am still a breastfeeding mama that my hormones make my body temperature soar. Is this what menopause feels like? Holy frig.

Anyhoo, I don't know about you, but I adore fall layers. Knits, coats, fuzzy stuff. I also love corduroy, probably way too much. I am also partial to hibernating and making stuff. Here's a small taste of my recent creating session:

(Have you been introduced to P.S. - I made this? If not, get cracking! Buy or take the book out from your local library. I have check it out 4 times now. I am almost certain I know every project by heart now! The t-shirt fringe scarf...shown above...is one project. Made in minutes and simply divine: the bottom half of a t-shirt, slice the cut end, pull individual pieces and....voila!)

I am not a huge reality show fan.

I still have my "guilty pleasures" and have been known to get immersed in a few episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. But when I watch reality shows, I gravitate towards ones that involve travel and places of the world that I am intrigued by. Since laying eyes on the History Television's show, Ice Pilots NWT, I have been hooked. I am fascinated by the two features of the show: aircraft (WWII aircraft no less!) and the Canadian Arctic. To top it off, the show is real and shows the day to day business that is Buffalo Airways.

My hubby travels a lot for his job...pretty much all over Canada. Although the Arctic is a rare trip, it is one that happens every couple of years for him. Due to waiting on a flight to come home from Yellowknife, NWT, Trev had the privilege to visit Buffalo and take a tour of the hangar and tarmac, as well as getting into a C49 cockpit. I am jealous.

So, earlier I posted this recipe for Sweet & Spicy Almonds. Today, I decided to whip up the recipe, but instead leaving out the red pepper flakes, adding cinnamon and substituting almonds for sunflower seeds. The result was as delicious as I thought it would be! I also love how when this cools down after roasting and coating that it forms like a brittle! Yum!

Here's my changed-up recipe for Sweet Roasted Sunflower Seeds...

First, mix the following in a small bowl:

1 tbsp of white sugar
1 1/2 tsp of ground cumin
1 1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon

Then, in a large frying pan or skillet, on medium, heat up:

2 tbsp of EVOO

Once heated, add:

2 cups of raw sunflower seeds
1/2 cup of white sugar

Toss to coat. Then, keep stirring constantly, as the sunflower seeds can burn instantly. When sugar and seeds are a deep golden brown colour, pour into a large bowl and toss with the spice mixture. Pour onto a cookie sheet and then...enjoy!

I love to thrift shop, specifically for my wardrobe.

There is nothing better than hunting around and finding that somethin' somethin' you've always had your eye on, knowing it was hard to get or too expensive in the first place.

(Snaps of my full little closet! New, thrifted, vintage, funky, colourful, black and white...it's all in there...)

My latest thrifting expedition landed me a fab pair of Gap denim capris ($2.50), a boho-style brown suede Danier leather jacket ($10), a brand new pair of Keds sneakers ($5...normally about $50)

and these 7 For All Mankind Jeans ($3.00):

Now, I knew that 7 For All Mankind Jeans were not cheap, but $175 regular price? Oh.

But my absolute favourite find this go around was for my wee girl...

(Still in print...since 1963!)

I had this book as a kid and passed it on for someone else to enjoy. I put it on Nat's library list of books to purchase for her and was super pleased to get a mint condition copy for no more than 50 cents. Score.

A Conglomeration Post...

Well, howdy!

Hope you're all enjoying the summer, now that the warmer weather is now upon us. Trev, Nat and I are certainly soaking up our first summer together as a family of 3.

What was life like before we were a trio?

I can't even imagine it...

So, Nat is now 7 months and 3 days old now. Yep, I can't believe it either. I took these on Sunday...the eve of her 7 month milestone...

We are sooooo lucky to have a happy-go-lucky babes who has such a lust for life. We are constantly amazed at how bright she is and I am not just saying that because she's our kid. Nothing gets by this girl! :-)

I have been making baby food and actually enjoying it. I totally bit on buying the Baby Bullet and am happy that I did. My puree manufacturing has also led to other cooking pursuits, one of which I will share with you because it's really a super snack with an ice cold beer on your sunny deck/porch/what-have-you:

Without further ado, here are my latest obsessions (read: purchases). I can't wait for the mailbox to fill up!

A Sophie leash for my Nat from SophieBelle. Miss Nat has begun flinging toys and at $25 a pop, Sophie needs to stick with us.

I have always wanted a family ring with birthstones, but I like this modern take instead. E. Ria Designs makes some super combinations of personalized jewellery. I opted for an "A&T" on the circle, "Natalee" on the rectangular pendant, a gold-tone pearl and silver bead chain (as shown).

Comfy pants with a super cute owl by Branch Handmade. Loving the eco brown colour and lately my love for dragonfly motifs is being eclipsed by the owl. Hoot, hoot!

Sometimes mommy & me matching sets are not so cool. However, in my mind, these house shoes/booties by Bug-A-Booties fit the cool mold.

A personalized burp cloth? Yes, thank you very much, Whimsey & Co.!

Squirrellicious was a featured artist on Etsy. Lotte's items are incredible and she creates such a unique spread of handcrafted pieces such as phone pockets, eyemasks, passport wallets, hats, card holders and framed bags. I could not resist this paper airplane wallet what is personalized with a name of your choice. Perfect.

And last, but certainly not least is BoCoBaby. I own what appears to be a ton of BoCoBaby. After spying a mummy friend's burp cloth and investigating online what BoCoBaby was, I fell madly in love. Chandler's combo of beautiful minkies and delicious prints are hard to resist. Her burp cloths are super: a 6 ply cloth diaper, complete with a fashionable strip of print fabric. I will be sure to post Natalee's customized lovey blanket when we receive it!

What I'm Loving Now...

Someone lit a fire under my bum.

I've been getting that excitement that comes with spring. The craving for colour, freshness and my usual happy demeanour. Winter, especially in the past few years, has really dampened my spirit. I am becoming more and more susceptible to the grey days and damp, cold air despite my desperate attempts to turn it around by involving myself in projects that inspire. This has been an especially l-o-n-g winter, but Nat's arrival has definitely brought one heck of a spark to what would be a dreary season.

This past week I found myself shucking my procrastinating ways and got to some spring cleaning. I know that if I complete one task, others will follow. And I have been purging and organizing like nobody's business. How do you do this with a baby? Well, thankfully my babes likes to watch me flit from task while I show her what I am doing. I give play by plays like a sports commentator. And she likes it! Funny kid.

I revamped my closet. Being a bit of a clotheshorse and a bag/shoe fiend, I needed a serious edit. Although I didn't purge a whole lot, I did rearrange and organize my entire wardrobe. It felt like Christmas, finding things I forgot I had. Regardless of the piles of clothing I already have, I need a thrifting expedition in a big bad way.

Here are some of my recent inspirations (in no particular order!)...

1. Colour a la Kate Spade. Delicious.

2. The simple beauty of any Sulu piece. Susan's jewels are exquisite. I only own one piece of hers and

I need more...note to self.

3. Wooden platform sandals. Love. Them. But not too high...I'll break my neck.

Daily Ritual :: Breakfast

Breakfast and I weren't always friends. I would always use the excuse that I didn't have time for it. Then I became hypoglycemic and breakfast started to become more and more important. When I became pregnant, breakfast became a high priority and I was very careful about what I was eating, concentrating on calcium, fibre, vitamin C and folic acid.

Now I have a ritual, which includes my little Nat. We wake up, I fix a bowl of cereal (usually one of Nature's Path Organic granolas...Peanut Butter is my fave!), grab a yogurt, unsweetened apple sauce or grapes and either juice (preferably grapefruit juice). Nat normally nurses while I pack back my morning fuel.

Daily Ritual :: Saving Face

I am not a make-up girl. I would be what I would call a wannabe make-up girl. I love to see others in make-up and have always wished I had the talent. But then, when it really comes down to it, I really don't enjoy taking the time to put it on.

My daily ritual is a shower, scrub the ol' face with some Burt's Bees, apply some Green Beaver facial moisturizer, a sweep on Benefit Dandelion Brightening Powder and a dab of Benefit Benetint on cheeks and lips. Finish off with a curl of the lashes and done. My goal is to look like I ran 5kms on a cold day!

Daily Ritual :: Nursing

Let's begin our daily ritual project with my favourite daily activity: nursing. This should actually read daily and nightly ritual. However, the nightly part is starting to become few and far between. I absolutely love breastfeeding and feel very lucky to have been able to continue, as I know it's not easy. Our start was slightly bumpy only in that we had to get Natalee's weight up before (and a week after) leaving the hospital. Since I had a C-section, my milk took it's sweet time coming in and we supplemented at the breast. If you have ever tube fed from the breast, you will know how tricky it is. However, it's all well worth it!

I love the closeness and the bond that is created with nursing, or any type of feeding for that matter. Holding Nat close and knowing that I am helping to build her immunity and make her a healthy little human is so fulfilling.

We typically feed at 5 or 6am, then 9:30/10am, various times throughout the day and evening (it's usually a cluster feed through the evening recently) and our last feed wraps up at 11pm. We use one of two trusty, handy nursing pillows. One large pillow and the other (in the photo) is a "peanut", which we use upstairs or at the keyboard (which we're doing right now!).

It's a Wonderful Life...

Has it really been over 3 months since I have written in this space? Sadly...yes. :-)

So, here's a little insight into the magic (aka, Natalee!) that has captured the hearts of Trev, myself and our dog. And even the cat (but she'll never admit it!)...

Motherhood fascinates me to no end. The beginning was a little rough with a bout of postpartum depression, but with the amazing help of my husband, midwife, mum-in-law and family and friends, we pushed by it full force. I can safely say that I terribly for those that don't seek help, don't know they have it or battle it for so long. The faster you can enjoy your little miracle and your life as a whole is so important.

Natalee is simply a marvel. A hilarious little being who has such expression and a firecracker personality. She just turned 3 months last Friday (the 4th of March). She is keeping her head up and adding more sounds (in varying pitches and lengths). She can hold things quite well and particularly loves the feel of skin, blankets and plush toys...but then who wouldn't? ;-)

We are truly lucky to hang out with 4 other mums and their babies who are either days or weeks apart from Natalee's age. My connection with my hospital neighbour, Christine, led me to friendships with 3 other mums. I absolutely value the comraderie, the conversation and the bond we have as mums. And we're all so different, which is super.

Now that Nat and I have our groove on, I will be back to blogging. In fact, Leya over at Curious Bird has mentioned a daily ritual project that might just be the ticket to get back into the swing of writing again. Something I really need to get back into...

I have been a terrible blogger and I apologize, but someone (and not naming who! teehee!) is getting just a wee bit of attention!

The girl and I are now at 36 weeks...approximately 4 more weeks to go! Trev and I (mainly Trev, who am I joking!) got the nursery all put together and we've been getting things together like our cord blood banking kit, our bags packed for the hospital and all of the little winterizing jobs that never seem to end.

So, probably the next time I'll be back to post is when Miss Thang has arrived. I love how much I feel her now and just cannot wait to see that little face and hold her. Our feelings for her already are just amazing...there really are no words, are there?

I hope all is well out there in the blogosphere!

I came across this handbag maker, Batavia Handmade Design, at our local Winona Peach Festival back in August. I have yet to buy anything from this designer (the talented Sil Frebian!), but tomorrow she is at another local show and I am going because I need to look again. I am hooked on her eco-friendly designs...anything upcycled/recycled is tops in my books. And the colours are...well, delish! And there is nothing like supporting a local artist! I'll let you know if I make a purchase! Tee hee.

Fabulous Fall...

Man, I love autumn. The crispness, the changing colours and the occasional surprising warm days that are perfect for searching for your pumpkin supply. Most of all, I love autumn & winter (yep, I said it...winter!) clothing. I am a sucker for a long jacket...it usually is wool or something like it and it needs to be different. These decadent treasures popped up in my inbox from Anthropologie recently. Me loves...

...reminds me of something my Nanny Switzer would have worn...

...yummy! And I used to have one just like it from Forever 21. Unfortunately their clothing does not last forever, let alone one season. Hmph...

...kinda spicy/Oriental-inspired. No?...

H&M is winning me over this autumn/winter season. I had to have this parka and at $49.95CAD, you should too. It comes in black and green.

This week marks 31 weeks of carrying my wee girl! I cannot believe we have approximately 9 weeks to go. Utter craziness. Our pregnancy has been amazing, really. It did not go without morning sickness, leg cramps and food aversions, but does that all really matter?

So, Trev and I have a name already chosen but that will be the big surprise. It's perfect and it was pinpointed by my husband. He's a good, good man...

The next 9 weeks will be nutso, but I am REALLY trying to get back into blogging. I really have so much to share and I have really missed my blogosphere of cool peeps. My Etsy dreams are still there, but I am busy nesting for now and enjoying it. Our nursery will finally come together next week when my hubby is on a week of holidays after our Thanksgiving.

Holiday Monday Project

This garden has been around since we bought the house 2 years ago and I unfortunately never really do anything with it. But this year, I planted parsley (fromy my mumma-in-law), lavender, thyme and basil.

It was still looking rather "blah".

So, I added some mulched top soil, some individual plant signs and an "herb garden" sign. More herbs will be coming! Perhaps some chives, rosemary and oregano!

Of course, my little Molly needs to watch all. She is a great supervisor.

And would really love it if she could be out in the garden with me!

Wuf was born when I was a toddler and his "maker" (I watch too much True Blood, I think!) is my awesome Mum.

Like most kid toys, Wuf had some schmutz on him that had sadly collected over the years. How Wuf made the cut to my thirties, is beyond me, but I am really happy that he did. Wuf is a hand puppet made from fun fur and corduroy and he recently underwent some Wuf surgery. It's kinda weird, because I decided to resurrect Wuf just before I found out I was pregnant. A sign? Maybe, but he was l-o-n-g overdue for an overhaul. Wuf received a visit to the washing machine, "WUF" restitched into his brown corduroy collar (I know, it's a hack job, but I am not super at it!) and a major restoration to his mouth and where his ears attach to his head.

I think Wuf deserves his own blog post because he's made it through 33 years of love and abuse. I hope my daughter loves him as much I do! Thanks, Mum, for bringing Wuf to us!

I love lululemon. For the longest time, I didn't give it the time of day. All I knew was that it was overpriced yoga wear. And it is expensive...I still firmly believe that. Then I touched and tried on a Remix Hoodie and I was hooked. Hopelessly hooked.

Since that first sweatshirt, I have bought a few more, because there is really nothing like them. They're the way sweats should be: thick, durable and a good fit. And lululemon backs up their product. The zipper busted 3 years after purchase and I thought I would take it back to the store to see if they dealt with a particular tailor that knew the constrution of their clothing. I had full intention of paying for it. To my surprise, they took my sweatshirt, my name, my address, fixed it for free and shipped it to my door. I did not pay a cent ~~(even though I paid a small fortune for the top in the first place!).~~

My all-time fave lulu product is the Savasana Wrap and they get these in the stores once in a blue moon...I never see them online anymore. The Savasana is worn as you like and is especially perfect for any type of travel...

So, we're having a little girl!

After having a huge, mega hunch that it was a boy since the first ultrasound at the end of May and after

consulting the Chinese Gender Predictor, we were very mistaken! :-)

But happily mistaken.

We never had a preference, aside from a whole-hearted hope for our kidlet to be healthy, and we have been blessed thus far. Every test that comes back is stellar. Wow. Does it get better than this?

I think not!

Anyhoo, here's the latest scan of our cute lil' thumbsucker!

She's turned away here, and the scan photo is not nearly as clear as our first, but you'll get the idea...

And you can currently find her in the bump below...at least until Dec. 7th. ;-)

A Switz~Art Summer...

The summer of 2010 is proving to be a hot one and full of basic things that fulfill my heart. I think because I know my complete attention will be focused on a wee one in December and beyond, I am taking the time to "smell the roses". Here are a few snaps of what's going on in my little world...

Deer, deer everywhere! It seems almost every dusk, there are at least three trekking around in the field across from our house.

An awesome find. Quick story: I worked at Roots Canada in my college years and I still have a lovely black tote and some other delicious leather handbags from those days. What I no longer have are my clogs that I wore day in and day out. I wore them to death. Unfortunately, Roots discontinued making shoes altogether until this year, but they are only making boots...not the shoes they once made. Boo.

So, I was just talking about how much I missed my Roots clogs and then my aunt and I happened to walk into a Value Village. BAM! There they were for $9.99 in perfect condition.

My preggo stomach cannot get enough of butter tarts. Actually, I prefer ones without raisins or made with pecans, but I'll take what I can get.

I cannot believe the amount of raspberries that came off of the bush we have alongside the garage. Two bowls full. Unfortunately, their season has come to a close.

Cold water with lemon. Another thing I cannot get enough of. Mmmm....refreshing!

18 years later, I am heading to see Sir Paul McCartney dazzle in concert once again. I am stoked because it was a miserable process to begin with. His Toronto show on Sunday, August 8th was sold out in literally seconds, but to my surprise (and thankfully I hung around the site a little longer) a Monday show was added and affordable tickets were to be had.

This'll likely be the last time I'll see this legend live because I'll be busy with the little bambino and frankly, Paul is getting up there. Pushing 70. Will he tour again? I will bet not.

I feel incredibly fortunate to see one of the best songwriters of our time for a 2nd take...le sigh.

It's Swell!

First of all, I want to thank you all so, so much for the wonderful well wishes for our little bambino!

That means so much! I am a slightly curious (read: fearful!) of labour and raising our kid to the best of our abilities, but I know within that all will be good. We have tons of love and have such a good life to give this kidlet. Oh, and the support! We couldn't ask for better family and friends to help welcome our babes into the world!

Trev and I decided to do a photo shoot when I am good and round (I am starting to show a tad...the food baby doesn't count! Haha!). So, I located local award-winning photographer, Sheryl Nadler, to snap a shoot in September. What's even more awesome, is that we're going to include our dog, Cecilia, because she's our family too! The cat, however, will have to stay home...she's not big on travelling in the car and going to strange locales! ;-)

Sheryl is hilarious and incredibly open-minded...as most photographers are and should be.

Spring Projects

This weekend Trev and I finally put up the dragonfly hanging that my Dad and step-mama Carol made me for Christmas...

Carol and I had seen a rusty-styled version of this at the 2009 Christmas One of a Kind Craft Show in Toronto and Dad whipped up his own creation, which is way better!

It's created out of wood (the frame) and anodized aluminum. Trev and I fastened this on the outside of our front porch with cable, crimps, two heavy duty hooks at the top and two concrete screws/washers on the bottom. We get quite a bit of wind whipping through this side of the house, so it needed to be solid. The hanging also provides a bit of privacy while sitting out on the Adirondack chairs.

Our swallows are back and have a project of their own...their nest. They have taken up residence to the left of the hanging on the porch (you'll see it in the 1st photo).

I anticipate their arrival every year. So pretty to watch and I dig that they eat bugs. Eat 'em all up!

Eeeks! Where have I been? Certainly not here!

Well, I guess I took an unintentional blog break. We've had some super cool things come up since I last posted, and my mind hasn't really been into surfing on the computer a whole lot. But hopefully, I have some stuff to post about from now on.

Let's see...

Spring has really arrived, but the coldness is crap. I hate cold days, even when the sun is out.

But, my Kiefer pear tree has bloomed. That makes me super happy...

(me thinks the porch roof needs a new shingle job...add it to the list!)

I have my Claw Spring Swap package ready to go for Beth over at What I Should Have Said. Beth, I'll be shippin' it off to you tomorrow. Gosh only knows how long it'll take to get to Georgia.

My fingers are crossed.

So, about my Etsy store. It is still there, but nothing in it yet. Grrrr. I will update when I list items.

I really hope that Miss Vickie's chips are available in the US and the rest of the world, but I doubt it, 'cause that's just how things go. Well, I love Miss Vickies, especially the Sea Salt & Vinegar variety...

No more shopping for me! Ya hear?

Gosh, spring makes me want to spend (more than usual!).

Even though I will no longer be purchasing anything (except a kettle...I need a new kettle), that certainly does not mean I regret my purchases.

I had to return some H&M purchases today. Their new t-shirts are VERY generous. Normally, I buy a large there because I prefer roomy shirts to clingy shirts. My penchant for food & beer make for an awesome muffin top and I don't want to inflict that on the general public. So, I had picked up a few floaty shirts and they were too big. Do you know how nice it is to buy an extra small top and you still have tons of room? Sweet!

Let's get back on track here...so after my H&M return, I popped into a store called Stone Ridge, also known as Little Burgundy. There sat this scarf and the print completely reminded me of Built by Wendy. No?

I can't afford Built by Wendy, but I can afford $7.00! Oh yes!

I adore Audrey Hepburn, as does most of the world. Such style, grace and selflessness in her humanitarian work. But she was also a lady who did not have a perfect life, as though it seemed. Who does, really?

I was given this beautiful book, The Audrey Hepburn Treasures, as a wedding shower gift from my parents two and a half years ago. It is a compendium of her life, good & bad, and starts with a history of her beginnings up until her death January 20th, 1993.

It is literally a book of treasures with 12 vellum pockets that contain reproductions of letters, small family photo albums, movie posters and even her wartime identification card (seen below).

Reading treasury makes me want to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's all over again.

I cannot get over how much I love food. Thankfully, I am adventurous and have a passion for trying new things. I made these roasted Roma tomatoes today. I topped them with bocconcini, bread crumbs, olive oil, finely chopped garlic and crumbled blue cheese. Yummy.

My only birthday wish yesterday that did not come true was for the weather to cooperate. Crappy, grey, icky damp weather that sends chills through your core. However, I had a fab lunch with my Grandparental Units and my husband was not terribly late getting home from work so we could have a decent meal together.

My husband always pays attention to the things I say, even when I am not sure if he is 100% listening. For my birthday, he is starting me back into yoga. We have passed by the yoga studio a few times and I think I have always said how much I loved the teacher, atmosphere and the fellow students. So, back I go and I am stoked.

Maybe I'll get to the Scorpion pose someday!

It was a damp day in Toronto yesterday...

...so my Aunt Kerry (like the sister I have never had...she's my mama's sister) and I ventured into the Big City to catch the Canada Blooms show!

We found some awesome deals, since it was the last day of the show! Score! I found me a 100% wool Bruce clan scarf (my Grump's mum is a Bruce descendent!), a tote bag complete with birdcages and 2 little ceramic koi fish that float. They had these Hunter boots on sale...

Did not buy them, because I just could not justify buying another pair. Hmph.

Spring Colour

My house has a smell. Not a bad smell at all, a spring/summer smell. It's super hard to describe, but it borders on a fresh odour and it has nothing to do with the fact that I have had the windows open either. Quite neat, actually.

I am in the mood for some colour! Bring it on!

Since yellow is a colour I simply cannot wear near my face (unless I want that sexy jaundiced look), I need to incorporate hits of it here and there if I want to wear it.

I have always wanted a pair of sulu-design earrings! I have been eyeing up a few pairs, but these were perfect. And they're Bakelite to boot. Susan makes such streamlined ear & neck masterpieces and she has such an eye for colour. I am always a keener for her original intent postings on her blog! It's a 1960's vintage cream faux alligator handbag. I ~~need~~ want a cream coloured bag for the spring/summer. I like something that matches everything, is structured and I am all for vintage. Any day of the week.

Flickin'

I "flicked" the garden today. Cleaned up leaves and twigs and flicked the mulch & dirt around with "the claw". (For more Claw fun, please go here.)

More Spring 2009 goodness.

This is how I like to see my house: surrounded by big ol' maples (even though they shit their bud thingys and those stupid, silly "helicopter" seedlings...but I digress.)

What I am really stoked about. Pampas grass. Yeppers.

Spring Garden.ca has the pink and white variety...

...and I am going to plunk 3 of those suckers at the back of this garden leading up to our main entrance.

This is mainly for privacy and of course for looks.

Thoughts?

I will also be purchasing 2 more clumps for one part of the driveway where our nosey, pigeon-feeding, know-it-all neighbours spy through to our main doorway. And one will be placed at the side of my porch, so I can sit out there with privacy, as well. Where our porch is borders the neighbours we really love, but it's still nice to have privacy, considering our entire backyard and deck face their floral greenhouse operation. We don't get much privacy, if at all, back there. Our pigeon-lovin' neighbours are a field away (thank gawd!), but still have a super good shot of our comings and goings. And they are not the people I want to know about my coming and going. Jerks.

Anyhoo, I hope you're having a rockin' Tuesday. Tonight I am hunkering down with a glass of Red Knot and watching Parenthood. Pretty good show, even though I still think Lauren Graham is still playing the character of Lorelai from Gilmore Girls? Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Num, num, num...

I do not bake. If I do, it's straight out of a box. But these banana (bread) muffins are sooooo easy.

And I am all about easy.

After a hankering (I hate that word...hankering...but we'll use it here once) for banana bread last week and finding myself without a loaf pan, I made banana bread muffins instead. Without nuts.

(Get in ma belly!)

They are so moist and delish. And they are especially super fine warmed up with butter. Almost orgasmic.

Here's the 411 on these treats...

What you'll require:

3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed (I used a potato masher...worked wonderfully!)
1/3 of a cup of butter, melted
1 cup of sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of baking soda
a pinch of salt
1 and a 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

How to make 'em...

Preheat your oven to 350F
The recipe indicated that there is no need for a mixer...I disagree, but it is certainly do-able. I got the ol' electric mixer out.
Mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl
Mix in the sugar, egg and vanilla
Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix it in
All the flour at the very last...mix away
You can then spoon into a muffin tray (makes about a dozen...I filled them full) or a 4x8 inch loaf pan

What the hell is this, right?

Well, I used to have a papier mache bust that I used to photograph my jewellery on years and years ago. Cannot find it anywhere.

So, with the use of a 2 litre pop bottle and cut-down Kleenex boxes, oh, and a shitload of duct tape, I made my own. Somewhat successfully.

Shredding the newspaper was the daunting part. It takes for...ev...er...

With a homemade recipe of flour, water and salt (to prevent mould), I made completed two busts.

The first is almost ready to paint. Although, I'll give it two more days to dry. The finished pieces will be photographed later for the blog. I am trying to keep them "organic" looking. Not completely smooth and I didn't want the edges to be perfect.

However, it was pointed out to me by my hubby (really, he is beyond supportive in my crafty endeavours...although we have many laughs!) that my bust does look like it sports a tumor. That can be found on what would be the left shoulder if you look at the photo head on (technically, the right shoulder).

I can't wait to see the painted/clear-coated result. But, I need thoughts on paint colour and that's where I need your help.

I am thinking any of the following:

nude
white or beige
gold
silver

A Story With "Sole"...

It was a very sad day last week when I had to finally part with my Uggs. My ugly Uggs. For three whole years, we were tight...the best of friends. I still continued to think that they were still grotesque, but to have something on your feet so warm and so slipper-like was delicious.

(Goodbye, old friends...)

I really had no idea how much Uggs were, but when my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday 3 years ago, I said Uggs. I came to find out that Uggs were atrociously expensive. Like, CAD$250.00 expensive. And not even waterproof to boot, no pun intended. Now, I will spend the money on something, when warranted, but I just don't think Uggs are really worth the CAD$250.00 to CAD$300.00 price tag.

So, when I discovered that my big toe blew through the sheepskin on one of the bastards I was very sad. I am really good with shoes...I baby them, but these were goners. Oh, and I will tell you that I do cut my toe nails, just in case you think I grow them to freak proportions.

After "Ugg surgery", I wore them for a day and the hole returned. It didn't pull through. Then began my replacement search. I thought about getting the leather bomber style Ugg boot (aren't they really nice, though? Sigh.). At nearly CAD$400, I quickly rejected the idea.

And then I found EMU Australia boots. Although not sheepskin, these were a hell of a lot more comfy, just as warm and...cheap! Like, CAD$220.00 cheaper.

(Why, hello, there!)

I think I am a little like Jekyll & Hyde when it comes to shopping. There are definitely things that I will spend the money on, but others I just won't. And I have to say, with the US dollar and the Canadian dollar being almost at par, I have a serious issue with the massive price discrepancy. For instance, check the price on these boots available in the US. Now, compare to the Canadian website. Frig me. I have a hard time believing there is $165.00 in duty sitting in a pair of leather boots?

In other news, I purged 3 large garbage bags of shoes, handbags, jackets and clothes today. I tallied that since my purge began last year, I have donated 15 bags and I am sure I am not done. It's so funny how I hold onto certain items and don't give much thought to others. I think lately, with all of the natural disasters occurring around us (Haiti, Chile...), it's time to let go and give to others that do not have what I am so lucky to have.

Purge ~ Repair ~ Make

Wow, it is sheeeeety out today. Terribly windy, damp and rainy.

A perfect day to caulk the tub (long overdue) and continue my 2009/2010 purge-o-rama. Today will focus on ditching summer footwear. I think it's a shame that I have such excess and others have nothing. It amazes me how much shit I actually have and do not use. I wish I kept count of all the times I have dropped off a garbage bag of stuff at the donation box. Wow.

Last night, I did a little clean-up on my new, cheap vintage wool coat. Fixed a button and repaired the lining...

...I love how different the plaid is from afar compared to seeing it up close...

And now for what the lovely Raina calls...CRAFTULENCE! This might be craftulence at it's finest.

So, I needed a tea cozy and I think you all know that I love to shop. I do not want to shop for a tea cozy. Don't ask me why, but the thought of searching stores for a bloody tea cozy turns me right off. I do not even hold a diploma for basic sewing 101...I can hardly hem pants, but I decided to give making a tea cozy a go. After a dig around in my fabric scrap box, I found two ends of the legs of a pair of jeans that I made into cut-offs. I found flat cotton batting. I found thread, scrap fabric for 4 ties and some beads for that super chic look. :-)

Yuppers...tea is yummy!

It completely serves its purpose...officially tested this morning. However, hubby thinks its hilarious. Which is why I will continue to use it, along with the anatomically correct female chip and dip I made in pottery class a few years back.

(Actually, have I posted that piece of clay yet? Hmm....)

Laze-Alot Friday

Well, it was lazy for SOME mammals in this house, but not for I. I worked on a bust form for showcasing/photographing all the funky jewellery I plan on whipping up.

What are you up to this weekend?

Mine will involve re-caulking the bathtub (oh joy, oh bliss...) and an awesome steak dinner at The Keg on Sunday night. Oh, and lots of projects...I have a vintage wool coat to freshen up and the creation of a tea cozy on my mind. May even start that tonight.

Geesh, my weekends have changed a lot from 10 years ago...

I Just Don't Think...

...that spring is here for good. I think there is another snow storm in Mother Nature's play book, but I'll take what I can get right now...

Mr. Wile E. Coyote showed up this evening. Pouncing around the field directly in front of our house. I have a love/hate relationship for the little monkeys. They freak me out because of their tame behaviour in urban areas, especially when they roam in multiples. But, on their own, they generally make tracks in the opposite direction...

This fabulous weather has officially ended my creative hiatus. I reorganized beads and pulled apart some thrifted stuff to repurpose into some funky neck pieces. I am loving the drive I have right now to dive into projects...

Even though it's coming upon spring, I think fall clothing is delicious! Marc Jacobs makes it all the more delectable this coming fall with his Louis Vuitton RTW collection. I am also in love with the 50's/60's/Amish look. Give me neutrals, greys and blushes and I am a happy girl, but add knits and structured pieces and I am in heaven. I think what I like most about this...it's wearable and suitable for all body types...

I love Anthropologie, in all it's deliciousness. If I won millions & billions, I would probably shop there first, or maybe second, 'cause I'd have to hit the Audi dealership for sure!

But when I go to Anthropologie with my mass fortune, I sure as heck will not be spending CAD$728.00 on this fugly clutch. Really?

I hate snow. Not my favourite stuff. I have shovelled four freakin' times today and it's not the powdery crap either, it's the heavy, wet variety.

Oh, look at me going out for another shovel...bleh. Thrilled, I am sure.

Olympic Loveliness

I am usually a backseat lover of the Olympics, but since the Games are happenin' on my home turf (albeit on the other side of the country) I am feeling especially patriotic. Of course, with all Olympic games comes the topic of outfitting. Roots Canada had a good stint with dressing up our athletes, as they also did with the U.S. team, but the past few years have seen Hudson's Bay Company deck out our team. I found the Beijing uniforms to be hideous at best...

Perhaps, they smartened up, in my opinion, because this year they offered up truly Canadian goods. I never buy Olympic wear, but this is one of two of my keepsakes...enter the wool team sweater (note: I have the cheaper version...the hand-knit sucker is CAD$350!)...

I popped on Get Outside Shoes' site today. Why do I do this to myself?

Here's where I need your opinion. Please refer to the two pics below of the glorious Hunter rain boots. Which catches your fancy: the original welly or the lace-up version? Your help is greatly appreciated, because frankly, I love them both and couldn't decide myself out of a wet paper bag on this one. Black is the colour of choice, however.

No more sitting around worrying and being sad...the show goes on...

...plus, it's very sunny out there (cold, but sunny!) and that puts some pep in the step!

Some other things that make me happy...

I found THE perfect right hand ring for me and it did not cost a fortune! It's hard to tell in this pic, but the round piece around the CZ is gold and the rest is sterling silver. It's a neat-o match to my wedding set.

I had my hair coloured for the gazillionth time. No more brown & blonde...dark cherry red for this cat. I am just wondering how long it'll take me to get bored of it!

And last but certainly not least...

Dad and my step-mama, Carol, came down last weekend and we finally had our overdue Christmas exchange. Dad & Carol made me this...

Isn't it awesome? It's made to hang, preferrably outside...I think I have the perfect spot for it!

Let's Turn This Frown Upside Down

It's been a bittersweet week around here. Between this horrific situation in my former city of residence, to the loss of one of the best educators I have ever known, it has been a lousy one. My thoughts and prayers to those families that have lost...I simply cannot imagine.

Life is like walking on a beach. You normally walk along in awe. You can feel refreshed by the water by merely sticking in a toe. But other times, it's turbulent and offers the drudgery of the ocean floor.

The bright light to this week is the arrival of Cassandra to our friends, Kevin and Jodi. A huge congrats!
